Filming on Cape Cod, Massachusetts:
Let us be your one-stop resource
In addition to its scenic locales, an added incentive for filming on Cape Cod is the new Massachusetts Film Tax Credit Law, adopted in 2006. The law allows studios, major producers and filmmakers - who either shoot at least half of their movie or spend at least half of their production budget in the Commonwealth - to be eligible for a tax credit equal to 25 percent of their total spending in Massachusetts, inclusive of any salaries over $1 million. Filmmakers come to Cape Cod for many reasons...our beautiful coastline, dramatic seascapes, stunning locales, historic charm and quaint New England character. Cape Cod is world-renowned as a travel destination and a global brand. It is a region steeped in history, celebrated as the landing place of the first Pilgrim settlers and as the "Summer White House" of President John F. Kennedy and his family.
Cape Cod has been featured as a backdrop in several major motion pictures, including the 2001 teen romance "Summer Catch" starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Jessica Biel. In 2007, the independent film "Chatham" shot on Cape Cod, featuring such film actors as Bruce Dern, David Carradine, Mariel Hemingway and Rip Torn. Several major television series have also filmed episodes on Cape Cod, include ABC's reality hit "The Bachelorette" and HGTV's "House Hunters" and "If Walls Could Talk." Cape Cod is also used often as a filming locale for many smaller independent and documentary filmmakers, and many of these films are showcased at our popular annual film festivals, including the Provincetown International Film Festival and the Woods Hole Film Festival.
The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is prepared to assist you in finding the perfect public and private locales to film, and to connect you with the proper contacts to make your filming efficient. We will help to put you in touch with such resources as accommodations and dining, and can help you arrange the necessary permitting on county and local levels.
